Smile Ubuntu-Resources and useful links to information

    Hello to Everyone,
this thread wants to ask all of you, if we can share some useful links to guidance and resources for the current Natty Release and maybe also for some timeless solutions which might help us all in completing our Ubuntu-Profession.

As Ubuntu is Open-Source this thread should also be just focused on Open-Sorce-Solutions.
Please tell me about your opinion.

Alright I will just start with some links which I know for the moment.

1.) Having a look into that feed seems to keep me up to date:
    http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/posts.atom

2.) As I got impressed by Natty and Gnome3 I also find this an interesting resource:
    http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppa/gnome_3?dist=natty

3.) When I was new to gparted this guide helped a lot:
    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/larry...es/gparted.htm

4.) As I was not sure what Zeitgeist is in Ubuntu I found what it stands for:

What would be really nice is a clear concise updated list or walkthrough to give to new users to help them setup their system without too much trouble, from beginning to end.

    For example:

Thanks linuxinstalledfromhdd for bringing up the first post in real-time
Yes, that seems to be a nice tutorial, maybe an additional reference would be:
    http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Natty

One of the easiest things in my life was to install xfce from a minimal boot by:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    sudo apt-get install xfce4
    sudo startxfce4
When thinking about sudo this guide will help:

I can't wait for Gnome 3 to replace Unity too. It should be awesome!

Re: Ubuntu-Resources and useful links to information

    Thanks wildmanne39 for sharing.

Here are some more from my side:

A tour of git: the basics - http://cworth.org/hgbook-git/tour/

A link to the GConf Reference Manual - http://developer.gnome.org/gconf/stable/

    A link to the Minimal Ubuntu-ISO - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/In...tion/MinimalCD

    Creating a distro with uck - http://uck.sourceforge.net/

And for easily creating your own distro of a already working system you could use remastersys:
    http://geekconnection.org/remastersys/ubuntu.html

But for creating a 'real distro' try live-build with your customized live-scripts referring to:
    http://live.debian.net/ , http://www.linux-live.org/ , http://live.debian.net/gitweb and also have a look at the manpages at:
    http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/..._config.1.html

And last but not least a link to MariaDB a perfect alternative to oracle's mysql as it seems to me
    http://kb.askmonty.org/v/installing-mariadb-deb-files
