Icons do not display properly

Hi

I have downloaded and installed these icon sets most of which I got from http://gnome-look.org/ and http://art.gnome.org/.
AquaFusion
Beos
Glossy-Glass
Lush
Nature
Noia
Noia Warm
Vista-Inspirate_1.0

My problem is they do not display properly. When I select them all the icons for the folders etc revert to the default Gnome ones. How do I fix this? They all have an index.theme file.

Many of the sets you chose are for KDE , so make sure you have the Gnome compatible version or vise versa depending on what desktop environment you are using . I noticed that some of the sets have both a KDE and Gnome version .

The other thing I noticed is that some of the sets have not been updated in years . I had this problem with one set , it simply would not work because it had not been maintained .

The Lush icons have not been updated since 2003 and another set since 2004 .

I downloaded and tested the Glossy-Glass icon set from your other thread and they install properly but don't work .

I am using the GNOME desktop. Which ones are the KDE ones? I see that the Vista-Inspirante_1.0 one is a KDE one. This is the
one I downloaded 'Vista-Inspirate_1.0-gnome.tar.bz2'. I got it from art.gnome.org and like the glassy ion set it installed fine but does not work.

I could not get the glossy set to work in Gnome either , I think that is a case of not being maintained of course like everything Gnome has been updated over time and it is up to the developers of themes and Icons to keep up with the changes . I will test some of the other sets listed and get back to you .

This is what I found.
Nature : Folder set only , requires manual installation (wrong size error ?)

Beos or BeOS : This is a Gnome icon set for a different operating system.

Noia : Unable to extract package .

Noia Warm : Install and work correctly .

Aqua Fusion : KDE

Lush : Install but don't work ( outdated ? )

Tks for yr all yr help. I will remove the ones that will not work. You were lucky with the 'Noia Warm' one, it really looks nice.
