Steps to becoming a Linux guru/pro?

What does one need to know and learn to become a Linux guru?
Does anyone have suggestions for online resources to learn from?

You cannot become a Linux guru. But you can become a guru in certain parts of linux, like a network guru, a database guru, a software development guru ...

I don't know what kind of guru you want to be.

Elaborating on your interests would provide some direction.. as would providing and indication of your current knowledge so as not to insult you with basic information..

    Hi

Linux is huge. What do you want to learn ?

If you want to learn scripting (bash in this case) then read the bottom two links in my sig.

    Google is your friend.

I mean... as in being able to work well at the command line, learning many different commands, and also learning to troubleshoot errors.

Experience is king here. You will be able to find guides on the internet, but use is what really works.
My suggestion is to go browsing through the HOWTO's and Tutorials here. You'll learn a lot. Also look up stuff in Google like, "what to do with ubuntu."
You'll get a lot of cool stuff.
    Happy... er... guruing!

here is a good tutorial: http://linuxcommand.org/

It start's with basic commands and just some philosophy about how unix-like systems are designed (the everything-is-a-file phylosophy) but there is also a big part about writing scripts.

Become familiar with system logs to help with troubleshooting.
While I'm here, does anyone know of any books that are held in high esteem which go into depth about any areas of linux?
    Code:
    sudo !!

Gradual and extended use helps You'll find yourself exploring, "I wonder if I can...." and then, through liberal use of Google, these forums, and a few select other places, you'll come upon answers, find yourself, through errors in your OS and plain interest, specializing in certain areas.

And those areas will make you smile when you think about them ^_^
