I think it might have been when I disabled 'Automatic plugin sorting' so I could try the cube, anyhow compiz --replace fixed it, till I screw something else up !

I gave mesa a try, and it broke the gnome shell completely - back with the fglrx. It is slightly better now, but not too much. At least my master hd spinns normally.

Yeah, have you tried some different fglrx flavors?

You might want to disable the xorg-edgers ppa and see what turns up for drivers options.

BTW, that is something everyone might want to consider, when your system runs the way you want it to you can disable some of the additional PPAs and wait for Ubuntu to catch up in the repositories. Just a suggestion.

Back in business and I know why cecil is missing Unity ,,,,, CCSM needs re-installing ....

I also have the compiz-dev too ..... and things are ok now

Super! I think Cecil said that setting unity back to defaults fixed it, he'd made a change to compiz that unity didn't like.

I did dist-upgrade and network manager and network manager gnome have been held back all day, just notice I don't have it in the top panel and stuff is greyed out ! hmmmm
