QUOTE[Also, what are your thoughts about the other issue (Alt + Tab and Favorites menu)]/QUOTE

Well if you can install them, you can usual un-install them

There should be a README of some kind in the extension folder I presume, did not look for one though.

Will have a look and if I find something I come back at it.
    Code:
GNOME Shell Extensions is a collection of extensions providing additional
and optional functionality to GNOME Shell.
Since GNOME Shell is not API stable, extensions work only against a very
specific version of the shell, usually the same as this package (see
"configure --version"). Also, since extensions are built from many
individual contributors, we cannot guarantee stability or quality for any
    specific extension.
For these reasons, distributions are advised to avoid installing or packaging
    this module by defaul.

For more information about GNOME Shell Extensions

For general information about GNOME Shell

Bugs should be reported at http://bugzilla.gnome.org against the 'gnome-shell'
    product, with the 'extensions' component.

    Extensions
    ==========

    alternate-tab

Lets you use classic Alt+Tab (window-based instead of app-based) in GNOME Shell.

    alternative-status-menu

For those who want a power off item visible at all the time, replaces GNOME Shell
status menu with one featuring separate Suspend and Power Off. Adds the ability to
    hibernate as well.

    auto-move-windows

Lets you manage your workspaces more easily, assigning a specific workspace to
each application as soon as it creates a window, in a manner configurable with a
    GSettings key.

    dock

Shows a dock-style task switcher on the right side of the screen.

    example

A minimal example illustrating how to write extensions.

    gajim

Integration with Gajim, a Jabber/XMPP instant messaging client.

    user-theme

Loads a shell theme from ~/.themes/<name>/gnome-shell.

    windowsNavigator

Allow keyboard selection of windows and workspaces in overlay mode.

    xrandr-indicator

Replace the GTK+ based indicator from gnome-settings-daemon with
a native one. Lets the user rotate the laptop monitor and open
    display preferences quickly.

    License
    =======
GNOME Shell Extensions are distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License,
version 2 or later. See the COPYING file for details.
Individual extensions may be licensed under different terms, see each source
    file for details.

    Disabling extensions

Per-user and systemwide extensions can be disabled with the GSettings key org.gnome.shell.disabled-extensions

    Found this here,

    http://live.gnome.org/GnomeShell/Extensions

There's something called LookingGlass [ALT-F2 lg] to start, which will let you see the installed extensions.

    Re: Tweaking Gnome3

    Hi all.
I've got the same issue while trying to build user-theme extension (on line 432).

    Making all in user-theme
    make[2]: Entering directory `/home/sebastien/gnome-shell/source/gnome-shell-extensions/extensions/user-theme'
    Makefile:432: *** missing separator. Stop.
    make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/sebastien/gnome-shell/source/gnome-shell-extensions/extensions/user-theme'
    make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/sebastien/gnome-shell/source/gnome-shell-extensions/extensions'
    make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

    Here is the Makefile extract:
    431: $(am__relativize); \
    432: new_top_distdir=$$reldir; \
    433: echo " (cd $$subdir && $(MAKE) $(AM_MAKEFLAGS) top_distdir="$$new_top_distdir" distdir="$$new_distdir" \\"; \
    434: echo " am__remove_distdir=: am__skip_length_check=: am__skip_mode_fix=: distdir)"; \

A quick googlization seems to confirm the syntax is ok. So... I do not any idea...
    Thanks in advance

The problem is that I have no idea either.
I can only confirm that I did this some time ago,and it worked fine.

Maybe you should take a look at them here,
    http://live.gnome.org/GnomeShell/Extensions

And maybe you can find something useful over there.

    Re: Tweaking Gnome3

I don't really know how the favorites bar got enabled and the Alt+Tab feature got disabled. I want to get rid of the favorites bar because I don't need it and it doesn't let me maximize my windows. And of course, I also want Alt+Tab to start working again. I am guessing some messing around with the extensions yesterday may have caused this.

But I am new to all of this, so I hope you guys will be able to pinpoint the cause.

EDIT: These two problems have been solved...see my post below.

    or

    Code:
    mv /usr/share/gnome-shell/dock@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org/ /usr/share/gnome-shell/dock@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org.old/
followed by a reload of the shell (Alt+F2, and then type 'r' and press Enter).

And this is what made Alt+Tab work again:

    Code:
    sudo mv /usr/share/gnome-shell/alternate-tab@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org/ /usr/share/gnome-shell/alternate-tab@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org.old
Some of you may also have to do the same thing in $HOME/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions

    Thanks for your help guys.

    Re: Tweaking Gnome3

So in summary, when you run autogen.sh, the only it works (for me) is when I remove the --enable-extensions flag. Then,

    (a) Alt + Tab stops working
    (b) I see a favorites dock
    (c) I don't see themes alongside Windows and Applications in the Gnome Shell.

Problems (a) and (b) have been solved in my previous post.

    (c) is the original reason for trying to install the gnome-shell-extensions, and remains unsolved. Any ideas on how to fix (c)?

This is probably because user-theme isn't even in $HOME/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions:

    Code:
    vivek@krypton:~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions$ pwd
    /home/vivek/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions
    vivek@krypton:~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions$ ls -l
    total 24
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2011-05-10 11:49 alternate-tab@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org.old
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2011-05-10 11:49 alternative-status-menu@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2011-05-10 11:49 dock@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org.old
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2011-05-10 11:49 drive-menu@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2011-05-10 11:49 places-menu@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2011-05-10 11:49 windowsNavigator@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org
    vivek@krypton:~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions$
