Hey, everyone. I'm having system instability issues. My startups are slow (takes 25-40sec to get my mouse moving and for login to popup), and having random crashes. My media players suddenly can't read my playlists, even though the paths are correct.

A little history: I had Corsair 1066 chips overclocked to 1600, but that was fine for a solid 1.5 years and supposedly the chips were designed for it. When I started having these problems, I ran memtest86 and it came up with a huge number of errors. I pulled back to 1066, tested the memory, and it was fine. But now I'm having the same stability problems again, despite good ram tests.

I also need to know if switching from AHCI to IDE emulation could cause these issues. But the slowdowns had started cropping up a while before I messed with that setting. The first indication something might be wrong was months ago when I switched to 10.04 -- my system wouldn't startup on a good cd burn. After I upgraded, my startups began to slow a bit, but not as bad as now.

Yes, I have a huge amount of storage, but that hadn't been a problem before this week.
