Thumbs down 11.04 Unity - Found no decorator to start - no menus/panels

    Hi,
just upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and currently no menus/panels are displayed; If I start in classic all is fine.

Prior to the upgrade I was running Cairo-dock (now removed), and metacity as the window manager and I had no other panels other than Cairo-dock displayed (don't remember how I turned the panels off). I suspect that this is cause of at least part of my current issues. Anybody know how to set all the UI config files back to some known state?

The following are the results of a few things I've tried:

Starting unity (from a Ubuntu session) I get the following (first line doesn't look too good):
libcompizconfig: dlopen: /usr/lib/compizconfig/backends/libgconf.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

ALSO: If I run unity --reset I get the following:

ALSO: I've run ccsm and checked that the desktop wall is selected, and the cube is not and I've made sure that the unity and expo plugins are enabled.

When I started ccsm the output included several warnings/errors:

[Solved] - 11.04 Unity - Found no decorator to start - no menus/panels

I've fixed it thanks to this post:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...68&postcount=2

    basically in a terminal:
    cd ~
rm -rf .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacity

    sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

    shtudown -r 0

Now when I login I have the unity interface.

Re: 11.04 Unity - Found no decorator to start - no menus/panels

If you're like me and came from kde with compiz, you might have to remove compiz completely to reset. Figured that out while checking out profiles in compiz (there was no "unity" profile in ccsm).

This is what did it for me (with nvidia-current drivers):

    sudo apt-get remove compiz*

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

    unity --reset

You might have to reinstall compizconfig-settings-manager as well..
