    Unable to format, Partitions Busy

I'm trying to format my main HDD and when I go to click format it says unable to format it says "Unable to format, device busy" I click details and it says "One or more partitions are busy on /dev/sda" I tried rebooting several times and no luck.

Maybe one of the partitions is busy? Have you checked that all the partitions on that drive are unmounted?

Are you trying to format/resize the partition you're running the OS from?
You can't do that unless you boot from a live CD, Ubuntu or Gparted

So you haven't answered our questions. What are you running when you attempt this operation? Because if you're running Ubuntu (Ubuntu forum here?) on the computer then you have an obvious difficulty that you'll be cutting off the branch you're sitting on.

you need to use the recovery cd(s) . formatting it's not possible since youare using the system on the disk you are trying to format. you can format the whole disk with a live cd but it will wipe up all your data with no system .
