Re: Get error : hd0,msdos 1 out of disk after a fresh install

You have installed your bootloader into /dev/sda2 instead of /dev/sda (it's a common mistake).

To fix this please boot off your LiveCD/LiveUSB, select 'TRY'

In the Terminal (Menu to: Applications >> Accessories >> Terminal):

    Code:
    sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
    Code:
    sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda
You can then reboot and you should come right up in Ubuntu.

Re: Get error : hd0,msdos 1 out of disk after a fresh install

    Hi ,
Thanks for the prompt repply ,
    I tried the code 1 , here's the result :

    ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Téléchargements$ sudo mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
    ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Téléchargements$

Something is missing I think , just note that I'm novice

    Thanks for your support

Re: Get error : hd0,msdos 1 out of disk after a fresh install

There is oneother thing that could cause you future problems if your don't take care of it now.

The fstab file is more reliable when you use UUIDs to identify partitions. Right now your '/' (root) partition is described as /dev/sda1:

    Code:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information.
    #
    # Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier
    # for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name
    # devices that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
    #
    # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    proc /proc proc nodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0
    /dev/sda1 / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1
    # swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation
    UUID=4939145c-429c-4926-b91e-d3c89e810904 none            swap    sw              0       0
    /dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
Ideally, the partitions UUID should be used instead.

    Code:
    Device UUID TYPE LABEL

    /dev/loop0 squashfs
    /dev/sda1 4824bfa1-b0db-45c4-9ebd-8e8afa67c77a ext4

To update the fstab file, please do this:

    Code:
    gksudo gedit /etc/fstab
    And change this line:

    Code:
    /dev/sda1 / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1
    To this:

    Code:
    UUID=4824bfa1-b0db-45c4-9ebd-8e8afa67c77a /               ext4    errors=remount-ro 0       1

mount: you must specify the filesystem type

Something is missing I think , just note that I'm novice

    Thanks for your support
I had typed the wrong partition in my example, sorry.

    It should be:

    Code:
    sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
    Code:
    sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda

    hit any key to continue
    Then

    error:couldn't read file
    Loading initial ramdisk
error:you need to load kernel first

    Eric,

Sorry I disappeared. It is income tax time and I was with the accountant. You would be surprised at now much tax a hedgehog has to pay. Anyway...

Looking over the script output, things look like they should. Of course, that doesn't mean much since it is not booting for you.

Did I read this right that this error:

    error:couldn't read file
error:you need to load kernel first

    hit any key to continue
happens before the grub menu appears?

At this point I would try a reinstall or 10.10, this time selecting /dev/sda to have the boot loader installed. If you have already tried this during my absense, let me know and please do a fresh script output (please press the '#' button and put the text between the CODE and /CODE text).

Look at all those flashing lights! I'll take one!
