Question How do I use Shotwell Photo Manager?

    Hello,

I have been using Picassa 3 for my photos during years. As sometimes, somehow, I have gotten Picassa 2 installed, I have quit using it. With Picassa I had my pictures in a special folder under subversion with a subfolder for each time I downloaded from my camera.

Shotwell copied all my photos to ~/pictures which I use for screen captures. As far as I can tell it has organized them by date. I have not been able to find out how to search for photos nor navigate through photos of different dates nor how to search photos

I suggest that when you open Shotwell see the user manual under help on the window menu.

Question Re: How do I use Shotwell Photo Manager?

    Hello,

I started Shotwell and to my great pleasure I can browse through all my photos. I still get the classification through YYYY/MM/DD of the photos in the left sidebar and I discovered that they are called events through the manual. A good thing is that my screen captures are not showing up in Shotwell.

Navigating through the different Events, for each time unit the event represents, there is a summary of all events that depend on that event. Attached is a screenshot of some of my 2008 events. I enter one of those events and I am only able to see the photos of that event. I do not know how to get to photos of different events once I have entered an event.

Clicking photos I get all my photos showing up which is goood. I also found out that I can merge events. Much better having a monthly even¡t than a daily event.

    Hi,

Which version of Shotwell are you using?

I've just installed version 0.9 and it rocks. It's not yet availble through the regular Canonical repository so you can visit the official website at Yorba.

They explain how you can subscribe to the ppa channel to get the latest from them.

My personal choice was F-Spot until I discovered Shotwell a while ago.

    Love the work they doing.

    Cheers,

Re: How do I use Shotwell Photo Manager?

I am new to Ubuntu and certainly Shotwell but I am a long time user of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop on the Mac. What exactly is the point of Shotwell? Is it a basic photo viewer that allows the user to do a few simple changes? It does not seem very versatile. The events are labeled by date and the adjustment options are nice but nothing extraordinary. Am I missing something here? Why would anyone choose Shotwell over anything unless they are restricted to Linux only. Is this the best Linux has for organizing photos or is there more to the program that I am missing?

Re: How do I use Shotwell Photo Manager?

    Hello,

I would love to be able to do a slideshow of all the pictures in a month but I am only able to do slide shows of an event (specific date) or of all my pictures.

Does anybody know how to do slideshows of a specific month that has several events?
