No Gazelle Manual??

Guys, a few clarifications.

We are doing our best to be a green company, and are happy to entertain suggestions on how that can be done better. While we definitely won't be including reams of paper documentation with our systems, there may be more effective ways approach this online.

But we do not provide a total lack of documentation on our systems. The computer comes with a piece of paper (we call it an insert) that points to our online resources, which have a quick-start guide explaining connections and hot key usage... that sort of thing. See...

...provide quite a bit of relevant information. Granted, it doesn't delve into all of the minutia, but we try to provide the level of detail that we've learned our general customer base wants.

We find that this level of information is sufficient for the vast majority of our users. In fact, I was surprised by the angry tone of this post considering we've had very few (if any?) other such comments regarding documentation in five years. For those who want more detailed information, our sales and support staff is (and has always been) happy to provide that information upon request. It's not about keeping secrets, and it's not about a lack of honesty (as someone mentioned above). It is simply providing what we think our customers want without swamping them with information they aren't interested in. If we don't know the information off-hand, we will research it for you.

Regarding the System76 Driver, it is simply a python program that identifies the model number of your system, the version of Ubuntu you are using, and applies appropriate patches. We post the changelog for this driver in an aforementioned link.

So, if anyone wants more specific information, please don't hesitate to ask.

Mucho thanks! It is written for ******* but lots of good stuff in there, A chapter on the BIOS, Dissembly, Interfaces and specs on the components in the back.

So what is the Gazelle Pro? This manual says the Model B has a 6.3 amp power supply, which is what I got, but the Model A has the 1920x1080 LCD which is what the Gazelle has?

Maybe this is not the correct manual?

What is the Gazelle, 8120, 8130, 8150 or 8170?

You provide no documentation on the BIOS, No documentation on the component specifications, no documentation on dissasemby of the unit, no documentation on the interfaces and there specifications. You do ship a slip of paper that has the links to the two worthless web pages you mentioned.

I personally don't see how you guys can hold up your head on this? If you would at least say this is a np8170, or whatever it is, go to Sager or Clevo website here.html or here.html for the manuals and specs that would get the user somewhere.

But instead you provide virtually nothing in regards to hardware specifications and say, what of it?

I didn't think so. Most consumer product companies don't provide that level of information.

Did you write to System76 requesting the specific information you need? Did they refuse to give you that information?

I don't see the need for the angry tone, but then I don't see the need for the level of documentation you want out of the box. If you have a real need for the information, I'm sure System76 will help you out.

No, on Apple's support page there is a plethora of information on the BIOS, interfaces, components, disassembly. Why there's even a PDF manual(read green)!!

Apple doesn't use Green as an excuse for the total lack of hardware documentation like System76 does. They actually provide tree free documentation.

I never knew people actually read the computer's manual. I usually toss the manual right after opening the box. If it was so important to you, why didn't you just email or call System 76 to see if they include a full computer manual?

This is a support forum. Are you actually having a problem with your computer? What do you want to know about your computer? There are easy ways of finding out things like your wireless chipset, the amount and type of RAM, your processor without consulting documentation.

Let us help you.

BTW, I am not a System76 employee and most people here have no affiliation with the company other than being linux enthusiasts. If you have a specific grievance with the company outside the realm of support, then you are better served calling and writing to them directly.

I will admit that Apple (mega-billion dollar company) does have more documentation and pdfs than System76 (mega-thousand dollar company?), but the information looks a lot like the "marketing" information System76 puts on their page. In addition, I could not find any BIOS or disassembly information at all. If you need the information ask System76 rather than being a troll.
