Screen Resolution Changed after exiting Game

I've been having some issues with my resolution changing after exiting a game whose resolution differs from my normal desktop resolution. Most often this happens after exiting World of Warcraft but does happen other places as well.

Is there a way to lock the resolution so it won't change no matter what a games' is?

I ended up running the game in wine in windowed mode at the full resolution my screen is set to. This makes it pseudo full screen but without the issues of actual full screen .
