I had a similar issue a while back and I found this info straight from Blizzard that fixed any and all WoW crashes I was having.

    Might be worth a try.

You got an nVidia card and he got an ATi card. To my knowledge he would never get a higher fps with that on Linux, only going for an nVidia card makes sense in his case.

Good video b.t.w. but make sure you don't forget to mention any important details about how the Windows system is configured, that has a lot to with how the measurement was done. Recording with FRAPS for instance slows down the performance a lot on a Windows system, just a note.
It's stated in the notes of the video:

    Same box
    Same settings
ONLY diff is wine/WoW uses OpenGL, Win7 uses D3D
All other settings EXACTLY the same.
    Running wine/WoW on a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+(2.6GHz)w/4GB DDRII(667) and a NV9600GSO w/768MB DDRIII.

    export force_s3tc_enable=true
    this should solve the problem.

GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc is not (yet) implemented in Mesa due to patent stuff.
