MS Word (.doc): equations are not appearing in OOo writer :S

    Hello fellow Ubuntu(ers),

I have several MS Office Word documents (.doc) that are technical & include lots of equations & figures; the thing is that the equations are either not appearing or appear with question marks & unknown characters in OOo writer.

I need to read these documents in OOo & hopefully convert them to .pdf

Can you please help me figure this out ?

    thank you in advance

I tried to do this couple of years ago and there was no way to do it. Try to get to a windows machine and convert those to .pdf (look for a friend or a public library/university library). Ever since, I have been using LaTeX, it is fully cross platform.

MS Office uses the Microsoft Equation Editor to stick those equations in there, and there's no way to get that on Linux, so you're out of luck until you use the windows system to save it all as PDFs.

Well that's what I have already done, even before posting, though I thought there was a solution :S

Well the documents are not my own work & i received them in the .doc format.
I try to use OOo or LyX myself & am trying to learn latex slowly.

thank you guys for your replies
