Cheese video lagging

Cheese has always caused problems for me. Either it crashed when I tried to record video or it stopped recording a minute in or, as it is right now, it lags so badly I might as well be narrating a series of still photos.

Is there a fix to this?

I gave up on cheese too, always crashed. Try guvcview

if you use 32 bit try wxcam
it makes avi file type

can start making movies in 3 sec or less
