I cannot load Windows XP after installing Ubuntu Studio

    Hi Guys!

After installing Ubuntu in a partition of my HD, I cannot load Windows XP. It hangs in the logo page (the blue tracking keeps moving forever).

When I try Safe Mode it hangs in the ...\Drivers\mup.sys.

I have read many posts in this and in other forums, but could not solve the issue yet.

I am posting here my Boot Info Script's results:

    Code:
Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010

My Windows installation is in /dev/sda1, and my partition with all my files are in /dev/sda5

I am not sure if that is supposed to be that way, but in the "Drive/Partition Info" section it say sda1 starts at 63, while in the "Boot Info Summary" section it say that sda5 "starts at sector 63" too.

Well, at least that is what I understood.

Can anyone spot something in the Boot Info that could cause Windows not to load?

    Thanks in advance,
    bilvix

Open Terminal in Ubuntu and run
    Code:
    sudo update-grub
    Then reboot.

Re: I cannot load Windows XP after installing Ubuntu Studio

It looks like you just copied your windows install to new partitions. Windows really only likes to install to primary partitions with the boot flag. You are booting sda1, but sda1's boot.ini only shows that one install not even the one in sda2. The install in sda2 boot.ini only shows it also.

Often you can use the windows CD to repair an install. If you run fixMBR you will have to reinstall grub2.

    Thank you oldfred!
    Thank you bobcollard!

I solved the issue, erasing my second Windows XP installation, and updating the grub configuration.

    Basically formatted my sda2 partition.

Just for the record here is my new Boot Info:

    Code:
