OK. let's explain details...
1. video acceleration on fglrx needs VA-API basically. so you should add this Guido's ppa to employ all latest libva:
https://launchpad.net/~guido-iodice/...el-and-drivers
2. also install xvba-va-driver from above ppa or mine.
3. check the output of vainfo. if you have not any errors, it means you're OK to use video accel via vaapi and xvba.
4. you should get mplayer vaapi-patched from somewhere. and gnome-mplayer is the helpful frontend of this.
5. install gecko-mediaplayer from main repository, and configure gnome-mplayer to play via vaapi.
6. if you run firefox, you should employ one of flashplayer-replacers plug-ins to use gecko-mediaplayer instead of default flash-player.
7. that's all. you could play online movies via vaapi-acceled gecho-mediaplayer.
give a try!![]()
Does anyone experience the problems with r8192ce_pci? Sometimes (I have not managed to find a regularity when it happens) Wi-Fi cannot be cannot from the first or even second attempt, dmesg prints about "auth timeout" (Wi-Fi AccessPoint is OK since it serves enterprise users).
And how to disable r8192ce_pci debug output in dmesg? It annoys me
P.S. Reproduced with Wicd connection manager as well with the pure wpa_supplicant (I know that Wicd works over wpa_supplicant).
P.P.S. And sometimes it just disconnects![]()

Hi guys.
I also want more experiences you guys had on r8192ce_pci kernel module...
and agreed with baranovdmi's post atout the flood of messages on dmesg.
now I'm tracking the solutions down for it.
and does anybody tried and experienced the issues on what kind of encryptions of wifi?
I only employed WEP128 on X120e instead of WPA2 enterprise or so...
@baranovdmi
Thanks a lot.
yeah that's right. Wicd works well. then I already moved to Oneiric and 3.0 kernel.
on Oneiric, network indicator and network manager had changed dramatically and nm-applet works well against r8192_pci and generic rtl8192ce native driver, too!!
but don't forget that I'm using WEP only...
the generic driver rtl8192ce on 3.0 kernel would work better than on 2.6.x though the up/down transmitting speed had been slower a bit than my r8192ce_pci. now I'm packaging it for Oneiric, but it's under testing state... so if you guys want oneiric, first you should try native driver in kernel!
cheers.
@tista
Kernel 3.0 -- is a great idea! Thank you for the tip. I moved to latest 3.0 too and seems that generic Wireless driver works good with WEP and WPA2Ent as well!
Does Fn-F3 (mute microphone) hotkey works for you (I mean does it generate any event)? Mine's one does not. showkey reports 240 keycode (accordingly to the include/linux/input.h it is UNKNOWN key code). acpi_listen shows nothing. Hence it is impossible for me to bind this key.
I've already tested it with `evtest` application, it shows the same 240 keycode. thinkpad_acpi seems does not handle it![]()
Hi baranovdmi.
Yeah kernel 3.0 seems to be nice!!
I'm also happy with your success on both WEP and WPA2...
but one thing. in case that on running battery power, the speed might be decreased significantly.
I suppose it caused power-saving algorithm or something like that.
and then, mine is also damned to avoid any events on "Mic Mute" by Fn+F3....
once we changed the state of Mic Mute by volume-applet on Gnome3, it had effectiveness for Mute. but Fn keys did nothing. yeah damned. I suppose some reasons:
* ALSA driver didn't handle properly.
* Thinkpad's acpi protocols didn't work on Mic Mute events.
* X120e has also HDMI Video/Audio output, so it might be a bit clutter to control volume/mute.
* the latest kernel 3.0 didn't even handle key events to transport to firmware in kernelspace and/or vendor.
* ...etc.
the first, we have better to track acpi events scripts down on power-management I think. the second, to search the fixes for ALSA tweaks for its audio driver. yep ALSA sometimes made us mad especially blacklisting and/or driver's options might be the evil...
cheers.
P.S:
acpi_listen says Fn+F3 as
checked via evtest...Code:ibm/hotkey HKEY 00000080 0000101b
AT2 keyboard and Thinkpad special keys:
[Fn+Esc]=Mute speaker -> code 113 OK
[Fn+F1]=volume down speaker -> code 114 OK
[Fn+F2]=volume up speaker -> code 115 OK
[Fn+F3]=Mute Mic -> code 240
[Fn+Delete]=backlight down -> code 224 OK
[Fn+Home]=backlight up -> code 225 OK
[Fn+End]=battery info -> code 236 OK
P.S #2:
I've got it!!
/etc/acpi/x120e-mic-mute.sh
/etc/acpi/events/x120e-mic-muteCode:#!/bin/sh test -f /usr/share/acpi-support/state-funcs || exit 0 . /etc/default/acpi-support . /usr/share/acpi-support/power-funcs amixer -c 1 sset Capture mute toggle
give a try with above 2 files!!Code:# /etc/acpi/events/x120e-mic-mute # This is called when the user presses the Mic-Mute button and calls. event=ibm/hotkey HKEY 00000080 0000101b action=/etc/acpi/x120e-mic-mute.sh

OMG...
so it might be the kernel issues?
I could recommend the Oneiric's kernel 3.0-2-generic or so, but it needs newer module-init-tools, too. on Natty, I don't think such upgrading could make this machine stable.
I'm currently using Oneiric and Radeon instead of fglrx...
if you had much time, could you download OO image and test it on USB-stick to run without installations?
obviously mine had worked above workaround on Oneiric.
P.S:
"acpi_osi=Linux" and/or some other acpi kernel options didn't make any differences...
Regards.
I am dual-booting Win7 that came with the laptop and Ubuntu 11.04 (AMD64). If I attempt into boot into Ubuntu from GRUB, the computer hangs. I finally figured out that adding "acpi=off noapic nolapic" to the boot parameters solves the problems but if I do so, then there is a number of other problems:
1. Only 1 CPU core is recognized in Ubuntu. (cat /proc/cpuinfo only shows 1 CPU)
2. No battery information is available when I disconnect from power supply. I guess this is due to turning off acpi?
Does someone else have this problem? I found at least one other person reporting this:
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-acpi/msg32746.html
Help? I am running Kubuntu btw.
@tista
Seems it cannot be kernel 3.0 issue since it hasn't worked before as wellI suppose the problem in some another place. I've also tried to run acpid with /dev/input/eventXX (responsible for thinkpad-extra buttons) only, and when I run acpi_listen and pressed Fn-F3, it crashed...
One more issue. Which kernel module is responsible for SD card reader?
No messages in dmesg are shown when I insert SD card -> I suppose some module is not loaded.Code:lsusb | grep -i card Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0bda:0158 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. USB 2.0 multicard reader
Thanks.
