JACK cannot start + newbie + messed up with JACK + cannot find setup

Well, the title says it all, im in big trouble.
I am a musician, I love linux and i would like to give it a try as a media-os. It's been proven to be tough, though.
First of all i would like to start Ardour. When it does it replies that it can't start JACK (what the hell is JACK, anyway, i don't remember anything like f@@@ JACK on windows).
Well, i would appreciate if you could help me have everything installed and working correctly on my computer. I also want to know if i have to reinstall sth, plz. Thnks~!

JACK is a sound server, it allows you to connect audio apps and hardware together at low latency. You should have it installed already as Ardour depends on it.
Go to the sound menu and click on jack control, press start then post what the message window displays.

If the whole jack approach is too complex for you, take a look at Jokosher or LMMS which are easy to set up DAWs.
