Besides Chrome, you mean? That's the easiest way, use Chrome and Google calender, then it will sync with your Android phone.

You have to access contacts through your Gmail account.

From calendar click on Gmail in the upper left corner.

Once in Gmail there are 3 options on the left bar: Mail, Contacts & Tasks.

ok, I've done that, and I already have some old contacts in there I didn't know about, but what app do I use on the android side to use all these?
I've never seen these contact anywhere on my android phone?
do I have to do it browser based again on the phone? or is there an app that can cut to the chase?

Your Android phone has the ability to sync with your Google accounts once you have set them up. This can be accessed from the menu under General Sync Settings. My HTC Hero syncs with Google Calendar as well as GMail contacts in Thunderbird.

    Hope this helps.

You have to choose Google Contacts in the People menu.

Also if you are interested in keeping your personal data away from the cloud...

or at least away from control by others who may decide to take away access to your personal information, one day google may get into financial problems and start selling data from people accounts (I know I'm probably paranoid... but... )

you my want to look into a solution that uses SyncML server, and then you just need to get an appropriate client. The link is the wiki site with info on the various servers and clients available.
