Will the new game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim be ported to Linux?

    Hi,

Skyrim looks more gorgeous. But with Wine, it'll make explode your CPU. Will it be ported?

I really, really hope that Bethesda would make this game natively supported on Linux platforms. It's probably not going to happen though.

I still play Oblivion, so I'm really looking forward to Skyrim's release.

Though I don't play under Linux anymore, I took the easy way out & use a PS3.

Well, looking at all the previous Elder Scrolls games/expansions a pattern becomes apparent...

The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls Travels: Shadowkey - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls Travels: Dawnstar - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls Travels: Stormhold - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard - no linux port
An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall - no linux port
The Elder Scrolls: Arena - no linux port

so my guess would probably be no.

Well it's a super anticipated game among it's fans so I'm quite sure there will be extensive support for usage under wine. I mean take a look at Starcraft II quite a popular game and there is a lot of support for that.

Well, in that sense, I guess your CPU will burn out. Spec required will be extremely high, and emulating makes games much slower under Linux, unfortunately. Elder Scrolls IV runs much better under Windows XP. It's a fact. Nothing better than a port... than wine, although it helps,

I vote it won't be ported for linux and Wine will take some time to catch up with it if it ever get's officially supported that is.

That's why I now have crossover games just for those games I know work correctly in linux AND a windows computer just for computer gaming (whenever those games aren't available for linux natively that is).

    Preordering Skyrim when it's available

I remember there was a major memory leak bug in Oblivion. in fact all of their releases had big bugs before patch. morowind was the cleanest perhaps. So waiting a year or two for them to iron it out and patch seems like a good idea. in that time Wine will hopefully also work. though i plan to save some money just in case for Win7 or 8...
