Re: Wireless USB N300 Netgear install

Let's try to solve this one step at a time.
    manaattimasiina heikki # cd Desktop/wna3100-drivers
bash: cd: Desktop/wna3100-drivers: No such file or directory
Where did you download the driver files? To your desktop? You are running as super-user, similar to root; please see the little # in your command prompt. Please try navigating to your own desktop, not root:
    cd ~/Desktop
Now list the contents of the desktop:
    Code:
    ls
Now do you see the wna3100-drivers file? Now you are ready to install the driver, except that ndiswrapper is not installed correctly:
    manaattimasiina heikki # modprobe ndiswrapper
    FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found.
How did you install ndiswrapper? From the Ubuntu repositories with apt-get? Were there any errors as you did so? We need to fix it first before we can proceed.

Please try this instead of above; first, drop out of super-user:
    Code:
    exit
Next, navigate to your user directory:
    Code:
    cd
Now change directories to your desktop. Warning, 'Desktop' will be something different in your language. Is it Finnish? Then it will be something like:
    Code:
    cd pöytä-
Now list the contents of the directory:
    Code:
    ls
Now do you see the wna3100-drivers folder?

Re: Wireless USB N300 Netgear install

Hi chili i have also just DL Ubuntu. Also did a lot of updates. I did get your file for this driver and it is currently showing in my windows wireless drivers, but, where it says hardware present I am getting a "no"

When i do my lsusb i can clearly see my device there. I know I did your steps a couple of times but then again it was later last night. still learning some things but think i can get around the terminal ok. let me know what you need to see and i will get it to you.

    thanks in advance.

Re: Wireless USB N300 Netgear install

    bcmwlhigh5 : driver installed
For ndiswrapper to work, the .inf file must match the usb.id of your device:
    ID 0846:9020 NetGear, Inc. WNA3100(v1) Wireless-N 300 [Broadcom BCM43231]
It also needs to be appropriate for your architecture; either 32- or 64-bit:
    Code:
    arch
So does it? Find the .inf file on your desktop or wherever it was when you installed it and open it with gedit text editor, if you can. Does it have your device listed?
    ;-----------------------------------------------------------------
    ; x64 (AMD64, Intel EM64T) - WinXP
    ;
    [BROADCOM.NTamd64]
    %BCM430ND_DeviceDesc% = BCM43XNMD, USB\VID_0846&PID_9020

    ;-----------------------------------------------------------------
    ; x86 - Win9x, Win2K, WinXP
    ;
    [BROADCOM]
    %BCM430ND_DeviceDesc% = BCM43XNMD, USB\VID_0846&PID_9020

    ;-----------------------------------------------------------------
If not, where did you get the files? Did you use Windows XP files? 95, Vista, 7 or 3.1 will not work. Finally, are there any clues here?
    Code:
    sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
    dmesg | grep ndis

Re: Wireless USB N300 Netgear install

I got the file for the 64 a couple of post back that you put in there. here is what i get from the codes you provided which may be a good answer.

    Code:
    marcus@ubuntu:~$ arch
    x86_64
    marcus@ubuntu:~$ sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
    FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found.
    marcus@ubuntu:~$ dmesg | grep ndis
    marcus@ubuntu:~$
I did not see anything in the .inf that said windows 7.... maybe i missed it.

Re: Wireless USB N300 Netgear install

    $ sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
    FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found.
That can't be good! Let's try the easy way first:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get remove --purge ndiswrapper-dkms
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall ndiswrapper-common
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall ndiswrapper-utils-1.9
    sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
    dmesg | grep ndis
