netbook gui difficulties - 10.04 desktop version

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop (not netbook remix, though the same problems occured when I tried netbook remix) on my emachines 10" screen netbook. While most stuff works well, I have difficulty with some GUI's not fitting on the screen, and no scrollbars coming up. Sometimes weird things happen, and I can't even click on icons because the GUI position shifts. These problems are most notable in Ardour, Easytag and Disk Utility. Is there any way I can adapt the GUI's to fit the screen properly, possibly with the UI config file? I have attached screen shots of ardour: 1 is when the program is opened, 2 is when I try to click on something and the GUI shifts.
    Thanks!

Re: netbook gui difficulties - 10.04 desktop version

I have no idea if this is related in any way, but there was a bug with 10.04, I think, where some long scrollable sections of menu, eg System ->Preferences, would not allow you to click on entries at the bottom of the listing, as the menu simply jumped back to the top of the list before you could click.

That was a symptom from the use of two of the default themes used in ubuntu (Ambience & Radience) on a small desktop size, ie the 600 vertical pixel resolution of most netbooks.
The workround was to use another theme, or to customise those themes, and the menu would then scroll properly.

The reason for my long post is to suggest that if you are using Ambience or maybe Radience, you try another theme to see if the problem disappears.
