Make sure you install the right drivers for your video card.
Go to System>Administration>Additional Drivers(Called Restricted drivers before 10.10).

How can i determine if card is capable? It run CMR05 on a windows pc as well as accelerated graphics why not on ubuntu? Defo a driver prob not card.
There are similar threads with same problem but as their setup/ hardware and os version is different from mine -not applicable
I definitely have nVidia 96 and nVidia 173 drivers installed.(173 as default)
I have tried both with same result= low graphics mode
nVidia still support this card but i can not download from site directly as browser displays text and actually says i need to change firefox settings to download and not view files. How?
