    ar9285 wireless problems on maverick

    Hello,
I'm new at this, I have a new MSI cr620 64bit, with the Atheros AR9285 wireless card and 5 series /3400 chipset(I think) running on Ubuntu10:10.
My problem is I can't work out how to enable the wireless card,
I'v been reading for days and am non the wiser, I did read someware that ther is no driver for it and I need to use an old Kernal ( I am very waery of doing this,as I switched my old PC on one day and lost the entire Ubuntu system!)

I did this aswell, It doesn't make an awful lot of sense to me.

Also I want to upgrade to Ubunu Studio , I presume I do that before doing anything about the wireless.

I may be too late, but I just upgraded to maverick and have an ar9285 which I had some problems with. In the end, all I had to do was run the command:
    Code:
    rfkill unblock all
and it worked great. If that works for you, you also have to add it to the correct config file so that if runs that command every time at startup. you do this by entering:
    Code:
    gedit /etc/rc.local
    and adding:
    Code:
    rfkill unblock all
to the end of the file, before the exit 0

    Hope this helps

Thanks for that Andrew,I just tried it but it didn't work,it may be because I'm now on 11.04 (naty), it says wireless disabled by hardware switch, but I switched it on and the light on the machine to tell me that the switch is on ,is on but no joy,, thanks jon
