Exclamation well thats me hangin the coat up

I have eventually come too the conclusion that mythtv is a very hit and miss affair... ie not a exact science

After spending hours, days, months of time, one minute it works next it doesn't, you spend more time (trying) setting up the system than actually watching\listening your media...

Still, I do appreciate the time people have spent on this project
    and good luck..

For me well back to xbmc , tvheadend and a look at vdr .....

    My rants over!

I realised that the only s/w tailored too my situation is myth.

    Gave it one more go.

A different approach this time, decided to put all the dvb-s2 (2pci tbs and 1 dual pci-e tbs)cards in one pc, running just 1 backend inc a frontend in 1 box and success, watching my tv now with hd and sly uk.. and two other frontends work flawless with it..
    blooming marvelous..

however I haven't risked the nvidia driver yet! dont want to break it!

Any help on the nvidia issue would be appreciated, running ubuntu 10.4 lts

    now where's that beer?

Glad to decided to take the coat off the hook and put it back on.

So what's the secret you discovered with nvidia???

( I don't disagree with your earlier rant: one minute it works, one minute it doesn't. This past week, my wife discovered that a number of the shows she had programmed for recording had no audio. Review of the backend logs revealed that all shows recorded on the first channel of my two-chanel PVR-500 had no audio, commencing a week ago. I rebooted the box and that cleared the problem. Until the next time it reoccurs. I'm in the process of splitting my combined front-end/back-end. Maybe that will improve the situation. Or maybe it will just open up another can of worms).
