    No Audio over HDMI
    I have two Acer 3700 NetTop’s, one I have had for 6 months and is working fine but I have just purchased a new 3700 and installed the same software and updates (Ubuntu 9.10 and Nvidia 260.19.29 video drivers and installer Alsa 1.0.24.2). However I can’t get the audio to work over HDMI on the new 3700.
    When I run alsamixer on the new 3700, it displays the mixer controls but there is no PCM volume control however there is on the old unit so I figure this is where the problem is but I have not been able to work out how to fix it.

    M8...I am gonna build a statue of yu in my front garden...flashing neon...the full damn works.
    Having been happily using 10.10 I reinstalled 10.04 x32 for overall home system compatibility, and no sound from Intel-hda ALC 887. Really, I've spent abt 10hours on it and then wham! your script in the first post sorted it.

    Cheers and tks very much for your efforts.

    May I ask someone a n00b question? I followed advice and am using the LTS version. I assumed that this automatically installs updates for all devices to ensure upto date compatibility etc etc. But it didn't, I think it was using Alsa 019 or something, which is very old. What's the point of using LTS then? Since my sound worked fine in Maverick...

    Testing Natty beta2 and after a upgrade, the sound was gone... used your script and sound came back. Somehow, there's no way to control volume from the applet or the keyboard keys (i'm on a HP pavilion, so it comes with dedicated "touch keys" for sound).

    The sound came back and that's good enough, thanks!


    PS. How come Natty does not ships ALSA .24 yet?? :-/

    EDIT: Amarok playback does not work. Guess it's related to gstreamer or something... sheesh

    When I run alsamixer on the new 3700, it displays the mixer controls but there is no PCM volume control however there is on the old unit so I figure this is where the problem is but I have not been able to work out how to fix it.

    Neon seems tacky. I would prefer something classic like marble. Get quarrying now!

    PS. How come Natty does not ships ALSA .24 yet?? :-/
    EDIT: Amarok playback does not work. Guess it's related to gstreamer or something... sheesh
    Natty does use 1.0.24. What phonon backend are you using? (look in systemsettings)
    FWIW, I struggle with Phonon at times too.

    Hi all,
    I keep having problems getting alsa to work properly on my zbox ID11 running Ubuntu 10.04.2.
    I removed Pulse and upgraded alsa with this script. It workes for some time but after a bit of usage sometimes up to an hour the sound suddenly stops and I haven't found away to get it working again. Sometimes it suddenly works again (after a few reboots and trying to reinstall alsa etc) but then after a few minutes the sound disappears again. So I call you for help as I am really running out of ideas before I completely reinstall the whole thing from scratch.
