    Hallo mtron!

    hello !

don't install a non default service manager. it has the potential to break everything badly. Debian wheezy (currently in feature freeze) will use systemd directly, so your best option is to just wait

I have a weird problem with the VGA switcher as I'm unable to launch any applications utilizing 3D effects whichever mode I boot in. (without eee1015pn-acpitools everything's working fine). My best guess it's a problem with the different Xorg configs and maybe the bleeding edge Nvidia drivers but I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to that. I've been contemplating installing noveau and would appreciate a link to a guide that outlines the clean removal of Nvidia drivers and replacing them with Noveau.

    System:
    EEE 1015PN, Xubuntu 12.04
    Using nvidia drivers from ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates.

    Slightly Off-Topic but EEE related:
I've having problems with my EEE Display for a while, getting non-reproducible screen flickering. I've tried the different fixes linked to a problem with the downclocking of the Nvidia driver but to no avail. Have other EEE users experienced similar problems? I had no luck with google as it's hard to narrow down the search. If this strays to much from the topic I'm sorry and feel free to ignore it

glx libs can be fixed with:
    Code:
    sudo display-settings regenerate-glx
Now log out & back in (you need to restart the xserver)

    No screen flickering here

Hi, I have used a trick with which i can run Ubuntu with Express Gate button. http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/inde...t-1410167.html Now the problem i am facing is that each time i run Ubuntu with express gate button it start with Nvidia only (1015PN). But if i start with normal power button via grub it works fine. I mean i can select any display with normal power button but with express gate button it works only with Nvidia..

I think there must be some setting in EFI Partition or Bios.

Can someone check and solve this Problem???

    Thanks

Re: Asus Eee PC 1015PN - graphic cards: Optimus and ION

No, i don't think that's the problem. It's more likely that this crippled Linux called "splashtop" OS has a very poor acpi implementation.

Following the "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface Specification Rev5 (see here) operating systems should query the _GPD (Get POST Device) _SPD (Set POST Device) and _VPO (Video POST Options) tables

A very short explanation of those Methods: (for more see Appendix B in the Acpi Specs linked above)

    - gpd method is used as a mechanism for the OS to query a CMOS value that determines which VGA device will be posted at boot.

    - spd method sets the active vga card for the next boot (we use this method to force vga modes)

    - vpo method is used as a mechanism for the OS to determine what options are implemented. This method will be used in conjunction with _GPD and _SPD

So in your case it's most probably the routine to boot this splashtop os that has no proper acpi support. A possible fix might be to let this splashtop os boot via regular grub. this might work but i don't use splashtop so no guaranties

There are two ways to boot.
    1st via kernal
    2nd via grub.

i have tried both way but no use.
even if i boot windows 7 from splashtop via grub..... it start nvidia only.
i love Ubuntu but i need battery life also.
I hope some one can look into this matter.

    Thanks for quick reply

this does not make any sense. you will always need a bootloader to boot a kernel.

again: i guess splashtop is crippled and has no proper - or a very buggy - acpi support, hence it resets the spd method to nvidia.

So forget about splashtop and just use ubuntu. VGA mode switching on the eee1015pn works flawlessly since more than a year already...

Re: Asus Eee PC 1015PN - graphic cards: Optimus and ION

Hi, i install Ubuntu 10.10 and it runs really fast....
Everything is working really good except acpitools.

    I try to run

    (sudo apt-get install eee1015pn-acpitools build-essential debhelper module-assistant lm-sensors)

    but it says

    (Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package eee1015pn-acpitools)

I know that support for Ubuntu 10.10 is not anymore but can anyone help with this please??

Make sure you add the repository for eee1015pn-acpitools. But, I do not know if it will work with 10.10. I believe the repository is only for 11.10 and 12.04. You may need to download an older deb that is compatible with 10.10. Mtron can confirm this.
