Windows 7 no longer boots after a repartition job.

I'm posting this here because I can't find anything that relates to my current problem.

Before we begin just some general information, I'm running on a 64-bit HP Pavilion dv6; This laptop is something you would buy off of best buy's show floor. I installed Ubuntu through wubi in windows 7. I have a 500 GB Hard Drive. As of right now I can explore the windows 7 part of the hard drive.

Now the problem began on Friday January 21st after I shrunk my Windows parition by 100GBS leaving around 370 GBS left in windows. Then I went into Ubuntu to try and format the 100GBS to create a space so I can share media in between windows and Ubuntu. ( At the time I didn't realise I could already go into the Windows Partition).

Then I tried booting in Windows 7 and ended up getting,

0xc000225 The Device is inaccessible

So I did some research and figured it may have to do with the boot manager (which I find in the Host file but cannot open). It also may have to do with the fact that since I've shrunk Windows 7 I might of changed the boot sector on the hard drive, and the MBR is still looking for it at where it used to be.

So I fired up my back up Live CD, got ms-sys and tried creating a new windows 7 MBR.

That screwed everything up and locked me out of both Ubuntu and Windows 7.

So I went back into live CD and downloaded/burned the following:

Ultimate Boot CD
Windows Recovery
Windows 7 Install

The Windows 7 and Recovery CD both said that there wasn't any previous installations of windows found on my system, nor did running bootrec.exe (ran in the command prompt) find anything.

The only thing that worked was the Ultimate Boot CD's 'testdisk', which got me back on to my previous installation of Ubuntu, but still not Windows 7. I get to the splash screen of "Starting Windows" with the Logo Animation, and then it restarts saying the say thing as quoted before.

What I'm thinking about doing now, is making an Image of the Windows 7 Partition on to an external hard drive, then wiping that partition from my hard drive. Then using the Recovery CD to use that image to repair my system. Though I actually feel this could make it worse.

Your thoughts?

Is there a way to make a log file of the Windows start up before it does a restart?

You'd better reinstall windows if you want it, it's probably pretty screwed up.

OP, so from a booted live Ubuntu cd or thumbdrive lets see the bootscript read out; in my signature just click on it and follow the instructions. Come back to the thread and click on the (#) in the reply panel this makes code tags paste all the text in between.

HP generally come with the maximum partitions already, so adding another without removing one is problematic. A wubi does not use a shared NTFS either, other then the wubi is actually a file in the Windows NTFS.

You mention a host file what does this mean?

Your computer does not look like a factory install, no sda1, and other anomalies. Can you fully explain what you have done, did you resize the sda2 partition from the front? Did you remove any original Windows partitions?

I wont be much help here, but am trying to get the information needed for a forum members who can.

The host file within the file system of ubuntu.

I didn't remove anything I just resized the original windows partition using windows disk utility.

I resized the partition within windows, then I tried formatting the New Unallocated space in Gparted.

But you converted your basic windows partitions to SFS partitions which is a logical volume manager that is not compatible with anything but windows.

Windows offically says to remove SFS you have to back everything up and erase drive. Then create new basic partitions and copy data back.

Normal basic partitions we could use testdisk to recover a backup, do not know if it works with SFS or not. One user who only had one SFS partition said testdisk converted it.

You can use a third-party tool, such as Partition Wizard 4.2. to convert a convert a dynamic disk to a basic disk without having to delete or format them.
The Partition Wizard software for Windows is supposed to be able to convert dynamic disks to regular partitions without data loss, so it may be what you need to get around this problem; however, I've never used it and so I can't be sure it will work.
Dynamic volume is a Microsoft proprietary format developed together with Veritas (now acquired by Symantec)
