    Help, iPod SW/HW Equivalent?

One of the few things that still tethers me to proprietary operating systems is my iPod classic. I *need* my podcasts (Off the Hook and Search Engine are musts) but Rhythmbox doesn't play nice with iPod. It has some capability to transfer files over manually, but you can't just plug the thing in and have it sync your podcasts IIRC

So what's a good open source equivalent combo of software and MP3 player. Rhythmbox would be the preferred starting point obviously...

Oh, and the device needs to hold about 80GB of stuff

    Thanks!

It's hard to find something like that, apple is very close with they software and hardware, songbird was one of the best but they decided to betray (yes betray) the linux compatibility , anyway maybe one of this players might help you, altough i would recommend trying itunes from wine (for the ipod compatiblity)

I'm actually prepared to abandon the iPod if there's another mfg. that can do podcast sync under Linux with Rhythmbox.

But I may have the next best thing, as I picked up a Nokia N900 last night - why not just carry your Linux podcatcher with you?

Now, let's see if I can brick it by trying to get Ubuntu netbook on there somehow

It's been a while but, i've lurking around looking for ubuntu programs, and i found out this one Miro http://www.getmiro.com/, it's a internet tv program, this work on podcast letting you download the podcast to see, maybe is the one you're looking for, and as an extra it lets convert the podcast to an ipod/ipad output (don't have neither so i can't tell if it works or not) just right click over the video and in the submenu you'll find the outputs,
Anyway before you install it i suggest you to follow this guide to avoid trouble when you convert the videos,

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=786095

if it still doesn't let you convert go to File»Preferences»conversions and the path for the ffmpeg is this one at least in my pc "/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg"
Don't beg for things, do it yourself or else you won't get anything
