How do you make the unity side-bar in UNR auto-hide?

Just put ubuntu netbook remix on my aspire one netbook and i absolutely love the OS. I wanted to know if it would be possible to make the sidebar auto-hide to give me more screen space... any help would be great! Thanks

Not for Ubuntu 10.10, but this feature has been added in the daily builds of Ubuntu 11.04 (which is still in development). If you can hold on until April and then upgrade to 11.04 when it's released, you'll get this feature.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.

You can switch from Unity to the default Gnome interface by logging out and choose Gnome from the session menu at the bottom of the login screen.

Don't know bout 10.10 but in 11.04 I go to compizconfig settings manager (ccsm), enable the unity plugin, click the icon to open the plugin and click autohide. Works smooth as silk in Natty.

Natty is still in Alpha, as i'm sure you're aware. I wouldn't recommend installing the testing branch to anyone who's new to Linux.
