How diligently have you looked for a solution? A quick Google search yields the following results:

Not working for you or can't understand? Post back!

    Hi

I did in fact search google before posting a question tried a few tips including the two links you provided. no luck still dosent work.
The ati card shows up in asla mixer but there is nothing to adjust . no settings.

i tried updating asla mixer still nothing except stereo
its listed as ATI HDMI mobile 5450 maverik digital stereo (confused by "moble" this is a card in desktop)
its as if this ATI HD RADEON 5450 card isnt going to work except for basic functions but surely this cant be?

im new and spent hours trying to fix this arrrrghhh

    any other ideas?

I'd love to know if you got anywhere with this as I'm having the exact same problem.

For the two sound outputs available (onboard and 5450) the onboard has about 20 different profiles (2.0, 4.1, 5.1 etc etc) but the 5450 just has the single one for Stereo.

I managed to get VLC to output 5.1 audio by selecting the "use spdif where available" option but since I'm trying to use XBMC thats not really of much use other than I know the 5450 can do it.
