Do you mean set the router to broadcast in b/g only?

    Yep, that's what I mean.
Yeah I know pirated copy of XP is free, but so is Ubuntu and it's LEGAL!

Thanks, but no change when I change to broadcast b/g only. I connect at a slow speed and then it gets slower yet over a few minutes. For example it takes an hour or more to load all the repositories when trying to update. [actually it usually times out]

Dang. I know the reason we are having the wifi problem is because of the kernel, hopefully with a newer release a.k.a. beta #2 this will be fixed.

Re: Wireless problems on Ubuntu 11.04

Steve, I have the same wireless network card; i.e. "Broadcom Corporation BCM4311", and the same problem (no wireless connection, even I cannot see the list of wireless networks) after the 11.04 upgrade. My problem is solved after removing "bcmwl-kernel-source" by using Synaptic Package Manager, then installing "firmware-b43-installer" and "b43-fwcutter" again by Synaptic Package Manager. I hope it solves your problem, too.
