    Ubuntu crashed, help!

    Hello,
I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop Sony Vaio VGN-CR123e before reformat my laptop. I did like it and decided to make a dual boot. so I made a clean setup of my MS Windows 7 and installed Ubuntu on 45GB. after 2-3 days of using it crashed, I couldn't expect that... is it usually happens to Ubuntu? as far as I know linux made for stability.

it gives me the next screen (I hope I copied it right):

    Re: Ubuntu crashed, help!

You shouldn't need to re-install Windows. You should be able to get Windows back by booting from the Windows disc and selecting the repair option and then running Startup Repair. It may need to run up to 3 times to repair the boot sequence properly.

I don't know why Ubuntu gave you a kernel panic. That may be something to look at later. If you get Windows back up at least you'll have a system to work with.

Please let me know how that goes.

    Re: Ubuntu crashed, help!

    Ah, ok.
Please boot from the Ubuntu Live cd/usb and select "try ubuntu" then when the desktop is loaded make sure you have an internet connection and go to the site below and download the boot script to your DESKTOP and then open up a terminal (Applications > Accessories > terminal) and run
    Code:

    sudo bash ~/Desktop/boot_info_script*.sh

This will produce a results.txt file on your desktop. Please copy the contents of that file and paste them in your next post between CODE tags. For CODE tags click on New Reply (not quick reply)and then click on the # symbol in the toolbar.
This will give a full overview of your current system.
    Thanks.
