    AMI size

The size of AMI for Amazon EC2 is 15GB. Every snapshot on EC2 has the same size. I wonder if 2GB is enough for storing server software. Most of the 15GB may be a waste of storage cost, and extra time needed for creating images. I wonder how the AMI size is chosen. When creating images on EC2, do people need to store data in them?

    Re: AMI size

The slack space is one way Amazon can make more from a given server storage unit.

Not much can be done about it.
