Likely you have dynamic drives. You cannot install Ubuntu on dynamic drives (it's possible in some circumstances, but since Ubuntu ignores the dynamic drive information it can lead to data loss).
In this particular case, it is Windows that is denying the request.

    Re: Wubi megathread

Ok, Hope this is where I should post my problem..Sorry if it is not.

I can't seem to find anything related to my problem so here it goes.

I am running a Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit fully upgraded machine (hand built not OEM), only OS that has been on the machine is Windows 7.

I downloaded the WUBI.EXE from the Ubuntu site deciding that this was the best option for me to allow me to have a virtual installation until such a time as I decided to go permanent.

The Problem: When running the exe nothing happens...I do get a UAC dialog asking to run the program but that is as far as it goes. I try to check task manager for a running process/application but find nothing. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Wubi megathread

I can not boot Ubuntu, the computer restarts every time I try. I followed the steps in the solutions.
My problem is that when I get to step:

    # sudo mount -o loop ... #

It does not recognize the file system, so try the following:

    # sudo mount -t ext4 -o loop ... #

and others file systems (ext3, ext2) but it still does not do anything with them.

I've tried with Ubuntu 10.10 and 10.04.1. I run the terminal from the live cd of Ubuntu 10.10 (Try Ubuntu).

If you have python installed, delete the python path from your environment variables and try again.

If you've never installed Ubuntu successfully (I'm not talking about the bit in Windows) then the root.disk hasn't been formatted and cannot be mounted.

The rebooting thing is probably a hardware issue - please post your brand/model/graphic card.

Is there any way to get Plymouth Manager working with 10.10 installed from Wubi?

I've never seen this before but it looks like it users burg. So you shouldn't use it on Wubi - it seems to me that most experiments with wubi and burg end up with a repair of the Windows bootloader. That may not be true of everyone... but personally I've never heard of someone using them together successfully.
