Don't uninstall the -15 kernel - it's your only working kernel now.

Did you run that command I showed from the grub prompt?
1. Boot computer
2. Select Ubuntu
3. Hit 'C' to get to a grub prompt as soon as you see the grub menu
4. enter

ls /boot

or

ls (loop0)/boot

(Press Esc to return to grub menu.)

Report back and let me know if you can see the -17 kernel and initr.img.

I was reviewing your older posts and noticed this:

miguel@ubuntu:~$ sudo update-initramfs -u -k 3.0.0-17-generic

Can you try to resolve that problem first e.g. review this thread and see if the advice helps you:

Then try regenerating the latest initrd.img

Also, maybe describe in more detail what happens when you try to boot with these latest kernels. If you need to, edit the menu entry ('E') and remove quiet splash vt.handoff=7, then hit Ctrl+X to boot. Thanks

Tk for pointing me that problem, problem solved. About the Kernels, that is the problem, the Kernel did'nt doo anything. Only a black screen... In recovery mood i can see 2 lines (is to fast to writte what is in their), but after that only black screen and nothing more. I can see the kernel image.
Any new idea?

There is a bug in 11.10 wubi where the recovery mode doesn't work properly... you have to edit it 'E' before booting and delete the first line:

	set gfxpayload=$linux_gfx_mode

Then Ctrl+X to boot.

I'm wondering whether there is some graphics card issue. Some people have had backlight/blank screens.

Anyway, maybe you can explore that if the following doesn't work... to purge and reinstall the kernel:

sudo apt-get remove --purge linux-image-3.0.0-17-generic
sudo apt-get install linux-image-3.0.0-17-generic

This indicates filesystem corruption so you should fsck the root.disk.

(Also, if you recovered the root.disk from a file in the \found.000 directory named chk0000.chk, make sure you got the real root.disk - the size should be 5 to 30 GB depending on what you selected at install time.)

I had an issue installing Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit by downloading the wubi.exe file and having it download the rest needed to install the distro. When I downloaded an ISO of 11.04 64-bit and placed it in the same folder as wubi.exe the install went without hitches.

Anybody had similar issues like this and do you know if it is a known bug or not?

There's bug 862003. This bug shows up as a Permission denied on x:\wubildr (x: is some drive letter) right at the end of the install, but the install itself is actually successful. You can check the wubi log file in %TEMP% (wubi-11.10-rev245.log) to confirm whether this was the problem.

It has been fixed for 12.04.

Also, the standalone wubi.exe in 11.10 won't install on a FAT32 partition (only NTFS). That's also been fixed for 12.04. Bug 882393

Ah nice... I didn't restart after the error to see if it had actually worked but the error with the random drive letter seems like the problem in my error log.

I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 using wubi.

I am looking at http://people.canonical.com/~evand/wubi/precise/

and I can see wubi-r265.exe and wubi-r265-signed.exe

what is the difference between the two and which one should I use?
