    Optimizing Ubuntu

Can someone help me in optimizing the speed of my Ubuntu, my system is not laggy though but I want to learn how to increase the speed of my processes.

    Thank you so much!

If you are using 12.04, then I would recommend using 2D instead of 3D. You can change this on the log in page, just above where you input your password.

2D is not as heavy as 3D. Or you can install Ubuntu Tweak, MyUnity and/or unsettings (I think it is spelled that way). You can tweak your system with these apps. I would recommend to install CCSM as well.

I found switching over to LXDE desktop on Ubuntu helped a bunch.

Then weed through the actual booting software and see what you really need or don't need. I'm down to 250-300 MB after booting up and the system is fast.

    Re: Optimizing Ubuntu

I had similar problems with my PC configuration (Core Duo 2.0GHz, 4GB ram, Nvidia 8400GS) on 12.04. Very laggy system even in 2D, running out of ram all the time. Probably bad drivers for Nvidia, but whenever I updated them with those from edge repos, they crashed my xorg. Therefore I reinstalled it to 10.04 and it works great. While on my laptop with similar specs, but with Intel integrated graphics, 12.10 works perfectly.
