Question ipw3945 card not detected after 10.10 AMD64 install

    NOOB
My ipw3945A/B/G card is not detected after Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64 install.
I have gone over multiple forums and tried many different techniques in forums and guides with no results.
I have everything else working in my Lifebook S7110 using forums I've found and guides but this!
    Does anyone have any Ideas?

It does not show up in lshw -c network

Does it show up in lspci? Has it worked with Linux before?
It might be a OEM card with different vendor and device ID's, that isn't recognised by the driver.
What? I'm not allowed to say fsck? Then how is i supposed to help people fix their filesystems?

Neither. It has shown up a couple of times in lshw but then disappears?

Well, lspci only cares about which cards are physically present, so if it doesn't show up in lspci, it's either bad hardware or something BIOS/kernel/wireless card related. Have you confirmed the card to be working with another OS?

Is there a WIFI switch on the laptop?
What? I'm not allowed to say fsck? Then how is i supposed to help people fix their filesystems?

the first line should be the driver for the 3945?
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03)

The first line is the CPU and memory handler.

The Ethernet controller and wireless controllers are on separate lines (02,09).

Did you try looking at the drivers for those, or try using the driver listed here?

Re: ipw3945 card not detected after 10.10 AMD64 install

All of the documentation that I have read says that the driver is in all kernels after 2.6.24
and in my files I have

    /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode
    /lib/modules/2.6.35-22-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi/iwl3945.ko
    /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.35-22-generic/include/config

Are these not functional or do I just need to find out how to set it up right?

Re: ipw3945 card not detected after 10.10 AMD64 install

You should have a entry similar to
    Code:
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)
Have you confirmed the card works with another OS?
What? I'm not allowed to say fsck? Then how is i supposed to help people fix their filesystems?
