    10.10 mouse pad freezes OS

4th install, tried both 64 and 32 bit v. of studio - wireless times out & no one seems to have found a solution, so tried 64 and now 32 bit v of Ubunto 10.10, and when I toggle off the mousepad Ubuntu freezes. No menu items function, the keyboard freezes, can't logout &t &t.

Am hoping to get to move to Linux and after installing 10.10 studio on my friends desktop, it looked friendly enough to try on this laptop.

So I haven't made it to the point where I can test to see if the wireless times out still or not.

Any suggestions are most appreciated. Help...

Laptop is HP Pavilion Entertainment PC, model dv7. I never had these types of issues a few versions back; other ones, but these are sort of wacky new issues I never ran across before.

I have the same problem on my HP dv5 laptop. I couldn't find a solution, but I found a workaround. When menus and buttons freeze, press <ctrl>+<alt>+F1 to switch to tty1 then <ctrl>+<alt>+F7 to get back to the GUI. This unfreezes it most of the time.

    Hope that helps.
