    Umw190

I have a USB cellular modem that works well under windows and mac, but is recognized as a cdrom under Ubuntu. The following are dmesg and lsusb output:

    Code:
[ 306.356115] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
    [ 306.505108] scsi4 : usb-storage 1-1:1.0
    [ 307.507782] scsi 4:0:0:0: CD-ROM UMW190 CD-ROM 2.31 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
    [ 307.525453] sr1: scsi3-mmc drive: 24x/24x xa/form2 caddy
    [ 307.525677] sr 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr1
    [ 307.526075] sr 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 5

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 106c:3b05 Curitel Communications, Inc.
I am trying to use this under Ubuntu per this thread:

However, since the device is not recognized as a modem, I am at a stand still.

If its anything like the 3g broadband modems we use over here then just go into file manager (nautilus) and "Eject" the CD and wait about thirty seconds and then you should be able to set up the cellular connection with the nm applet

The CDROM shows up briefly, then disappears. I am hoping for a method to tell the kernel that this is not a CDROM.

    Re: Umw190

I have gotten it working as a modem.

I used a windows pc to
    1. Connect the UMW190 to your computer's USB port and Launch VZAccess Manager
    2. Go to the "Options" menu and select "Preferences" and Select the WWAN device and remove the check mark by Enable "VZAccess Manger" CD-ROM Disks

    Once done:

[ 3787.637073] usb 2-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11
    [ 3787.788995] cdc_acm 2-4:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
[ 3787.792810] usbcore: registered new interface driver cdc_acm
[ 3787.792814] cdc_acm: v0.26:USB Abstract Control Model driver for USB modems and ISDN adapters

Now this unit shows up as a modem and works as expected. I still can't tell if it is using cdma or GSM for the connection as we have each here in this part of the US.
