Hey Guys,
Long-time lurker, new member. I've been looking into buying a Linux laptop and stumbled across this helpful article:
7 Providers of Pre-Installed Linux Laptops/PC's
Some of the companies are well-known on these forums, like System76 and ZaReason. Others were new to me, like Think Penguin and Frostbite Systems.
I was wondering, can anyone comment on LinuxCity? I discovered them in a comment thread on Linux Critic (Time for a Linux laptop).
LinuxCity has the cheapest prices I've seen so far, but I can't find a review of them anywhere. Have you heard anything good or bad about them? The prices are so low that I'm a little worried about quality.
My impression is that LinuxCity buys excess inventory and then installs Linux on them. Mostly Asus and Acer laptops, with a few Toshibas thrown in. The only drawback I've seen so far is that the computers are slightly older, as in they use dual-core rather than quad-core processors.
That doesn't bother me, since I don't do heavy-duty gaming or video editing. My requirements are pretty modest: 14" or smaller screen, decent graphics card like Nvidia or ATI for watching movies, and Bluetooth for working with a smartphone.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
