canon pixma mg5200 install problems, Ubuntu 10.10

I downloaded the Debian driver packagefrom the Australian site that was said to work in 10.4.
set up won't launch.
I just switched to Ubuntu so I'm not much good with the terminal yet.
any help or education welcomed.

I just got the MG 5200 working on 10.04. I haven't tried it on my 10.10 machine yet. I'll take a shot at it and post results here.

I just installed it on Ubuntu 10.10 32bit without any problems (using wireless). Printed a test page just fine.

Did you look at the installation instructions in the user guide from: http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0300409501.html

The guide is the download at the bottom of the page.

Specifically, it lists the Ubuntu install instructions as:

For Ubuntu 10.04
1) Expanding the archived file and switching to the expanded directory

[user@zzz /yyy]$ tar zxvf cnijfilter-mg5200series-3.40-x-deb.tar.gz
[user@zzz /yyy]$ cd cnijfilter-mg5200series-3.40-x-deb

2) Installing the printer driver

[user@zzz /yyy]$ sudo ./install.sh
