Question Application Window Missing from Taskbar, But All Others Appear

I am having a problem with a particular application not showing in the GNOME taskbar in Ubuntu 10.10 x64.

The application is Novell Groupwise, a Java-based e-mail client.

It does, however show when I press ALT-TAB to bring up the window switcher. It also shows in "The GNOME Panel" (desktop switcher) when it is in the foreground.

All other applications correctly display in the task bar (Window List).

    I am up-to-date with patches.

    Any ideas?

Re: Application Window Missing from Taskbar, But All Others Appear

This problem is very similar to this post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1136806

MatLab and Groupwise appear to have a similar problem. But there does not seem to be a real good solution for this, only the undesirable workaround of changing desktop effects to "None" from the default setting of "Normal".
