Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (10.10, Maverik Meerkat)

    Hi ohmboys!

You have an Intel wireless card. The b43 driver is for Broadcom cards. It will not work on your machine.

It sounds like you're trying to enable monitoring mode on your wireless card (most likely for aircrack-ng). You do not need a special driver to do this. The default Ubuntu driver for your Intel wireless card can be used for that purpose.

For assistance in getting your card in monitoring mode and using aircrack-ng, I suggest you inquire on their forum:
    http://forum.aircrack-ng.org/

They will have a lot more people who are familar with that software and the necessary steps to get monitoring mode working properly.

    Good luck!

Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (10.10, Maverik Meerkat)

This is driving me batshit insane. It hasn't occurred to me before. None of these solutions worked for me and I JUST want to install the STA drivers. I also tried installing natty packages (bcmwl-kernel-source) and the one from broadcom site. NOTHING WORKS. Any ideas, what log should I look for?

Installing Natty alpha fixes the issue. Installing the STA driver from Additional Drivers JUST WORKS.

I have an HP mini 110c with a broadcom 3412 wireless card running Maverick. The card picks up networks but will not connect, constantly tries to acquire a network address. This problem started when I turned off the wifi with the switch on the netbook. I have tried almost everything suggested on the forums and nothing works.

Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (10.10, Maverik Meerkat)

    Hi bevangg. Happy New Year!

To figure out what's going on, we need to collect some diagnostic information. Go to Applications > Accessories > Terminal on your top panel. In the black box that appears, type each of the following commands, then press Enter:
    Code:
    lspci -vnn
    lshw -C network
    ifconfig -a
    uname -r
    sudo iwconfig
Once you've done that, copy and paste what appears in a reply to this thread. We'll take a look at it and see what we can do.

Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (10.10, Maverik Meerkat)

Hi Patches from Arizona love the handle and many thanks for your timely reply. I have tried to attach text file with the outputs of all the commands that you listed. For some reason the server refused to accept this file in any format so I have had to resort to copy and pasting the whole shooting match in this post.
PS The plot thickens... The netbook connected immediately to the wlan in the Pub. I have noticed that it seems to think it is trying to connect to the Pub network wherever it is. This must be a clue to what is going on here!
I hope this makes sense to somebody.

Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (10.10, Maverik Meerkat)

I have a strange symptome on my BCM4312.

My connection speed drops from 17Mbps to 5Mbps when I pull the cord of my laptop and run it on battery (tested with speedtest). It also seems to have some trouble connecting to websites. But it does so eventually, but slowly.

    I have a Dell Inspiron 1750 with BCM4312

Before ubuntu 10.10 my wirelesscard worked fine. That is, I ran it with the B43-driver together with ndiswrapper. After installing Ubuntu 10.10 my speed dropped to about 5Mbps. A wired connection gives me about 25Mbps.
I thought I fixed it by completely reinstalling the system and trying the STA driver instead. It worked right away. No need of nsdiswrapper.

But now I lose my speed when I go on battery. And Im not really satisfied with 17Mbps.

    Any thoughts on this??

    @zippi07--

The version of the STA driver you have is about 5 versions old. The repository has not been updated, see the readme on this page for more information.

    http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php

It may not make a difference for your particular problems, but it might?

I tried it: compiled a new STA driver.

But the endresult is the same:
17Mbps on netpower; 5Mbps on battery

Thanks for the tip. But no luck.
