Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.10 - Oneiric Ocelot)

I upgraded to 11.10 from 11.04 and my wireless stopped working.
STA drivers were installed and were activated (By default )
I have Dell Inspiron 640m and network card is Broadcom 4311.
I did following and it worked for me.

    From Ubuntu software center

    1. Remove bcmwl-kernel-source.
    2. Check if firmware b43-installer and b43-fwcutter are installed. Install it if not installed.
    3. Restart the computer.

Same thing happened when I upgraded to 11.04 and everytime during package upgrades if I upgrade wireless drivers it would stop working.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.10 - Oneiric Ocelot)

Tried every thing I could find all over the net, but my wifi problem on an Acer 4820T with Oneiric Ocelot just would not resolve. It would work on a whim and often not work at all.

Easy solution in the end was to ins re-install Linux Mint 11 Katya. Now my wireless works flawlessly!

Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.10 - Oneiric Ocelot)

    Hi all,
I happily fixed my Broadcom 43224 wifi issue, I just removed the proprietary STA driver to keep only the brcmmac free driver, and it's far better.
For each complex problem, there is a simple solution, the wrong one.

Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.10 - Oneiric Ocelot)

Hi, i have installed Kubuntu on my Asus F5R and my wifi doesnt work. (i also tryed with ubuntu and xubuntu but no way to use my wifi). I followed several threads, posts and whatever i find in internet but i haven't solved my problem. My notebook has the wifi light on but ... it seams not working anyway.
(I tryed with my old usb wifi netgear adapter in order to chek if the wifi signal was ok and it worked...)

I'm posting you some datas and hope you can help me with this:

    Thank you very much

    UPDATE:
I removed all packeges with tags: bcm, broadcom and then typed in the terminal:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
    sudo modprobe b43
wifi started working. i can't understand why this method has worked now and not yesterday ? i did the same at least twice yesterday...

Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.10 - Oneiric Ocelot)

There were no hints to my problem with the Lenovo U160 and Broadcom 4313 given here. In case anyone has the same issue here is the fix. First use the kernel supplied driver, don't install the STA. Then edit the blacklist file, /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and blacklist the acer_wmi module. Hint, open file as administrator with gedit, save after changes. Then rmmod acer_wmi. If rfkill list all shows anything blocked issue unblock all. Your Lenovo U160 will have great wi-fi working. Cheeers! BTW, it worked in Mint 11 as well, same deal. My original posts are on page 50.

    @ bog_alt

You need to remove the bcmwl driver you are trying to use. It will not work with your wireless card.

open 'Additional Drivers' if it is listed there click on de-activate. Do not reboot when prompted. Instead open a terminal type in and run
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
    sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
if any errors eg- cannot be found - then edit the sources list in Software Centre make sure the first 4 boxes under the Ubuntu Software Tab have a check mark in them. Then run the commands again.

When that has finished, reboot, unplug the USB dongle and your wireless should be working.

    Good luck.

Have typed the above then noticed you got it working. Oh well.

If network-manager shows "device not managed" (German: "Gerät ... nicht verwaltet"), do this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...98&postcount=6 , but the config file ist now:
    /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
    And after that
    sudo service network-manager restart
, and wait 2 minutes, because directly after restarting the service, it still showed that the device is not managed.

Finally solved my missing wlan functionality from just a distribution upgrade (I think it was up to 11.04)! I am happy

    @Cbviewer
Yes, you have posted the list of loaded modules, but neither b43 nor wl are loaded. What driver do you want to use? And check that only the other module, that you don't what to use, is blocked within the config files in /etc/modprobe.d/ , please.

@auftable Thanks, that's really useful. I am VERY new to this and do not actually know what I want to load and was hoping for advice as a lot of what I've read here and elsewhere is contradictory. I'm happy to take advice and sort of need leading through it.

    Thanks again.
