I've searched the thread for bcm43224 and not found the solution I'm about to post.
In Natty, my Thinkpad Edge 11" wifi worked fine out-of-the-box.
In Oneiric, it didn't.
The solution that worked for me that I found was to blacklist exactly two drivers by adding a couple of lines to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Confirming that alco75's solution for works the BCM 43224 chips in Dell's XPS 1340s. (Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot).

I am not sure if this has been posted already, because the thread is pretty big.
After installing the driver through "Additional Drivers", the wireless was not detected anymore.
I was able to solve the problem using the instructions on the following thread:

I am having problems with my wireless after installing 11.10. i attempted installing "firmware-b43-lpphy-installer" from synaptic and no change. here are some outputs. I have a linksys usb wireless device in right now that works but I am trying to get my built in broadcom chip to work. please let me know if I can give you more info.

Thank you very much for offering to have a look. Yes, my broadcom wifi has a history of creating headaches, however this is a new problem.
(1 - Background)
A bit of background: I'm on a Dell Studio 1747 (specs here), which has a Broadcom wireless adapter (BCM43224 14e4:4353). According to the Broadcom website, it is compatible with the STA driver (the one that can be enabled through system settings). Up until upgrading to 11.10 Oneiric all was well. Now, however, the computer seems to connect just fine to the router, but no traffic happens at all. Trying with Windows or a different computer with Oneiric has no such problems.
(2 - Things tried or considered)
I noticed that the Broadcom website released a new driver today, 21 Oct. Beforehand, there was a note on that site suggesting that there's an incompatibility with kernels from version 3. With the new release that note has been taken down. I tried to follow the instructions there to use the new driver, but nothing changed (perhaps I made a mistake, though).
One interesting twist is that I can actually get wireless working by adding to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
However, it seems to make the connection quite slow.Code:blacklist bcma blacklist brcmsmac
Other options that I have considered are to try the b43-fwcutter drivers instead. However, most sites list my broadcom card as more compatible with the STA driver.
Finally, there seems to be a bug in oneiric concerning wireless connections using the N channel/standard. I haven't investigated that further.

Well you certainly know more about your card - and provided enough information too.
Before trying any b43 drivers have you tried configuring your router to NOT use 'n-band' speeds. Unless you have a super-duper high speed connection from your ISP or you have a high volume home network you do not need the bandwidth.
If blocking the 'n' band makes no difference then we will try the b43 drivers.
