    DIY Culture, Ubuntu and you!

I'm listening to NPR Science Friday and they're talking about DIY Halloween costumes and props. One person is using a servo in a jack-o-lantern to make it shoot silly string. It also tweets shots of it's victims automatically. Though this is a frivolous application of technology, it shows the nexus of DIY culture and technology. Who here has a good DIY story using Ubuntu/Linux? Has anyone automated anything in their home? Where do you think Ubuntu fits into the DIY culture if at all, and how do we become more affiliated with it?

Oh yeah, the man with the servo mentioned this site: http://adafruit.com/

no good stories, but home automation is something i have always wanted to tinker with, if only i didn't have to work... but linux and DYI go hand in hand, and sadly i think that is why most people are not willing to use it. I use ubuntu because i can get into the nitty gritty of the OS if i want to or keep it simple when i don't care to.
    Always,
