    wired network will not connect

Hello. A few days ago I flew to South Korea for a foreign exchange program. I am having trouble getting my computer to connect to the internet. In the US, the wired network worked fine, but in my dorm here, I can't connect. I read a little in the forums, and have tried a few things, but haven't had any luck. Based on what I read in other threads, I think you may find the information below useful. It's the output from:

lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net
    cat /etc/network/interfaces
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    ifconfig -a

lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net

Thank you for any help you can give me. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 if that matters for any reason.

Re: wired network will not connect

    can you post:
    Code:
    nm-tool |less
    dmesg | less
    less /var/log/syslog
also are you sure you did not change drivers or something in the meantime?

can you also make sure your kernels is upto date:
    run:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-$(uname -r)
    linux-image-$(uname -r)
    sudo aptitude update
    sudo aptitude upgrade

Re: wired network will not connect

I don't think I've changed any drivers, and when I booted into an older partition on my computer, I couldn't connect there either, so I don't think that's the issue.

The syslog was so long it seemed more appropriate to attach the file itself. Unfortunately the formatting got screwed up when I copied it to my Windows partition, so I'll have to reboot again. I'll have it up in just a minute, but wanted to get the rest of this posted.

Re: wired network will not connect

After rebooting I realized the issue was probably that Windows handles newlines differently than Unix based systems, so the attached file should probably look fine to you. (Had to be zipped to meet the file size requirements)syslog.zip

Re: wired network will not connect

can you also make sure your kernels is upto date:
    run:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-$(uname -r)
    linux-image-$(uname -r)
    sudo aptitude update
    sudo aptitude upgrade
I can't run those because I don't have any internet connection at all, I'm only able to post here by booting into windows (something I don't like doing when I can avoid it). I can tell you, though, that I am running the 2.6.38-11-generic kernel.

Re: wired network will not connect

Thanks, but that's for firefox 3, I'm running a newer version, and it's not just firefox that doesn't work. I can't connect to the network at all.

Re: wired network will not connect

Hi, I might have missed something it was very hard reading that much information all ran together, I usually break it down into smaller bits.

    Please post the results of:
    Code:
    nm-tool
    Code:
    dmesg | grep -i -e warn -e error
    Code:
    lsmod
    Code:
    dmesg | grep eth0
    Code:
    sudo iwlist scan
Do you have a wireless connection that works?
post the outcome here by clicking on new reply and click # and paste the information between the brackets.
    Thank you

There's no wifi in the dorm. I might be able to get a wireless connection down on campus, but haven't tried yet. If there are individual specific packages you'd like me to install, I can download them in my Windows partition and install them in Ubuntu from there.
