    Squeezebox server and NTFS files

I have installed Maverick 64 bit and Squeezebox Server and now I am trying to get the computer to scan my music library. The library is divided into two partitions FLAC and My Music (Mp3 songs). I have put symbolic links for each into my Home directory and pointed Squeezebox to that folder. Unfortunately Squeezebox server does not see any of the music folders or files. I understand NTFS folders can not be given permissions so I am not sure how to proceed from here. I had it working on Ubuntu a few years ago but gave up on Linux after having other difficulties and went back to XP( can't remember how I got it working though). By the way the computer is a dual boot with XP as I am just trying Ubuntu out to see whether I can eventually ditch MS. I would perhaps put my music into a EXT file system if I was no longer using XP. I am a novice with Linux commands so be gentle with me.
