    10.10 Maverick boot splash problem

I had the same problem with Lucid and was hoping that this would have been fixed: the boot splash on Lucid was showing some ugly low-res version of the logo. After the network upgrade Maverick it is even worse! It just shows some ugly text: 10.10 Maverick Meerkat (or something like that). It looks horrible!

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) on a Dell Studio 15 with propriatery FGLRX graphics drivers.

Re: 10.10 Maverick boot splash problem

Removing fglrx (at least partially, since the removal fails) seems to fix the startup problem. I now see the nice high res Ubuntu logo. However, after that I only see a black screen. Gnome does not start up. I can press the power button on my laptop and I see the (high-res) shutdown screen and the machine shuts down.

    Something is seriously wrong.

That's exactly what happened to me, and all these fixes and workarounds that involves uvesafb doesn't work at all for me. I tried A LOT of howtos, reverted back, tried again, and nothing.

Isn't there an official update for this is 6 months? Or they really don't care about people who use proprietary drivers?

About what ? If you mean to hide the verbose comments, add "quiet" to /etc/default/grub

I'm having the exact same issue as this, with Lucid and now with Maverick.

No, the log messages are over the top of the broken splash screen. No logo at all.
